Türkiye’s free zones exported USD 7.7 billion in January–July 2026, up 6.9% year-on-year; exports represented 76.8% of sales and medium-high/high-tech products 57.4% of exports. The figures justify investigation, not an assumption that a free zone is the best location for every project.
Start with the activity, not the incentive
Compare the same business in a free zone, OIZ and ordinary industrial location. Export manufacturing, international trading and related services may benefit from a free-zone structure, but eligibility and advantages depend on activity, licence and current law.
Model the full location cost
Include lease/use right, fit-out, power, handling/storage, customs process, operating charges, labour, port transport, finance and working capital. A tax advantage cannot rescue poor logistics or an expensive operating setup.
Test goods flow and customer flow
Map export versus domestic sales, origin of inputs, customs route, cycle time, inventory value, origin/quality requirements and customer contracts. A strong case demonstrates how the zone reduces friction or total cost for this exact flow.
Do not book incentives before written verification
Before a feasibility model assumes any incentive or tax treatment, match the activity with the zone administration, competent authorities and licensed tax/customs advisers. Document licence conditions, duration, charges, restrictions and the route to exit or relocate.
